November 2016 - Our Neighborhood is Awesome!

I don’t think anyone can say they were happy to see Hurricane Matthew hit our area, but I believe many of us here in Stonehurst Plantation are grateful not only that the storm spared us from the worst damage, but that our community showed an amazing collaborative spirit. When we decided to take our preparations at the Amenity Center a step further, there was no lack of volunteers to sink all the furniture in the water, or to help put it all back following the storm. I saw neighbors helping and checking on other neighbors both before and after the hurricane, and throughout the storm and the aftermath our Facebook site was active with helpful information and offers of assistance. Some of us were without power much longer than others (Taps Bar & Grill, you are welcome!), and however inconvenient I think we are all thankful that it was not worse than it was. Unfortunately much of our larger community was not as lucky. I hope that by the time this is published great strides have been made to help restore the areas badly damaged by storm surge and flooding.

I want to thank everyone for taking this seriously and doing your best to prepare, help others prepare, and for helping to get our neighborhood cleaned up so quickly. To those who “caught” and stored street signs and got them back to me, we all thank you! Those are expensive and it was nice not to have to replace, just repair them. I hope we all got an opportunity to know someone new or know someone better – whether that was while you hunkered down in the storm with a group, in the days before and after when we were all outside more than usual, or at the post-hurricane community potluck. I chose the title of this article because I heard that phrase repeated so many times. Our neighborhood is awesome!

Best Regards,

Damara Farwell
