More Recycling Stuff

Here are some more "rules" that we believe apply to our recycling providers (but to be sure call the providers):

  • NO for styrofoam - packing chunks, egg cartons, meat plates, etc. (Publix has a recycling box for styrofoam egg cartons and meat plates);
  • NO for wax-coated boxes - like milk cartons;
  • NO for plastic shopping bags (both Publix and Winn-Dixie have recycling containers for these);
  • NO for cardboard boxes that are not broken down flat.
  • YES for egg cartons made of pressed cardboard-type materials;
  • YES for all aluminum cans and metal cans;
  • YES for boxes that contained cereal, crackers, pizza carryout, etc., but those must be broken down;
  • YES for all plastic containers - water bottles, cola bottles, detergent, milk, bleach, shampoo, etc.; *
  • YES for small - medium cardboard boxes if broken down;
  • YES for newspapers, magazines, phonebooks.

* If in doubt about whether plastic will recycle, check the bottom of the container for the recycling "triangle" - if the number inside this triangle is a "1" through "7", then it should be recyclable.
